On Monday the 30 th of October following the highly successful launch event of the Business
Bootcamp, on the 23 rd , the Swansea Entrepreneurs Network and Santander returned to run a
collaborative evening with CMI. The theme of the evening was Business networking and mentoring.
Hosted in the School of Management, society members new and old came together from a range of
subject backgrounds to meet the CMI mentors.
The event started with an reintroduction to the Network for many who had attended the previous
session and highlighted the members portal on www.swanseaentrepreneurs.com as a key place to
network with peers and partnered businesses. Dave Bolton, a leading Entrepreneurship Lecturer in
the school, then presented Sli.do to the members an interactive question app that could be used
throughout the session for further engagement to the speakers.
Gary Metcalfe who is head of the CMI Cymru sector then gave the Entreprenerus Network a speech
on the value of mentoring and how to interact best with a mentor, littered with personal examples
from Gary’s own development in the business world. This helped to give students a clear
understanding of the feelings on both sides of the deal for mentors the personal benefits as well as
the benefits for the mentee to be developed under the mentors wing so to speak.
Following Gary’s insightful talk the Network were introduced to the mentors in attendance, we
challenged them to present themselves to the students in a 2 minute elevator pitch, something of
the Network will need to be doing on the 13 th of November at the Student pitching Competition run
by the Entrepreneurs Network. We give special thanks here to our mentors:
After the introductions the students were split into groups of 4/5 and spent some time talking to a
number of the mentors in depth about their personal business ideas. This created an interactive
session where the members got to not only network with CMI mentors but also with other members
of the Entrepreneurs Network.
