On Monday the 6th of November the 3rd week of The Business Bootcamp took place in it’s usual format down at the School of Management on the Bay Campus. Jackson Pickard introduced the event where this week saw the theme shift from Networking and the use of mentors to Finance and Business Banking. Often hot topics for start up entrepreneurs we’ve found that among many of our peers who are striving to create new businesses at such a young age it is often the daunting task of considering financing the new venture that puts many young people off or simply delays them from starting when they wished they could.
The Entrepreneur Network welcomed local business man Benedict Room to host the first part of the evening session. Ben who has an infectious outgoing attitude made an instant impact to the room, questioning who wished to be successful, with some tentative replies with no idea of Ben’s follow up question, he then leapt onto the table and showed just how enthusiastic he was to be successful!
Ben has developed both private businesses and also worked on social enterprises, raising a quarter of a million pounds for the creation of a skate park in his youth. Ben was a fantastic example to the Entrepreneurs Network of being creative in every opportunity you find yourself in to raise the profile of your cause to create results. Ben discussed how he has raised finance through public and private sources to continue growing. He also invited the group down to try some of the activities on offer at his business BRD Sports, for more info see the website: http://www.brdsports.co.uk
After Ben’s interactive session about raising finance we had Bruce Holiday in from the Business Banking team at Santander Swansea. Bruce talked the Entrepreneurs Network through the steps to setting up an official business bank account and the range of resources available through Santander. This included a talk through the online platform Santander created for businesses to find resources that could help them to grow!
With a thick set of guidance notes on the financial development and organisation their businesses could take and loads of inspiration from Ben on how with drive and determination you can achieve great results with your business and that finance isn’t a scary road block that cannot be surpassed. The event concluded with a brief discussion of the upcoming events for the Network and some social time for members to discuss their businesses with each other.
